Kochi: Michaung Cyclone has inundated Chennai and many areas in Northern Tamil Nadu while the government has ordered people to stay indoors, media reports said.
Social media is flooded with people sharing scores of pictures of floods. Bus, rail and air services have come to a standstill, the reports said.
Power outages are reported from most of the arrears. Power supply was switched off as part of safety steps.
Situation in areas like Madambakkam and Perungudi is very bad. There were reports of people seeing a crocodile in Perungalathur.
The cyclone is centered about 110 km East-North East of Chennai. It is expected to move further in the North West direction and intensify into a severe cyclonic storm by today’s forenoon. It will move parallel to the coast of south Andhra Pradesh and is expected to cross Mannur and Masulipatinam on Tuesday forenoon, the reports said.
