Kochi: Thirty-six people were killed and 19 injured when their bus plunged into a gorge in Doda in Jammu and Kashmir today, media reports said.
The bus skidded off near the
Batote-Kishtwar national highway
and plunged into the gorge which is about 300 feet deep.
Union Minister Jitendra Singh in his post on the X confirmed the death toll. He said some of the injured were serious.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi has expressed distress and condoled the death of the people. “An ex-gratia of Rs. 2 lakh from PMNRF would be given to the next of kin of each deceased. Rs. 50,000 would be given to the injured,” PMO posted on X.
