Vipassana gains popularity in Kerala

Kochi: The 2,500 year old Buddhist meditation technique of Vipassana is gaining popularity in Kerala with more people showing interest to learn it to attain peace.

Centres at Chengannur, Wayanad and Vellanad in Thiruvananthapuram train a large number of people from India and abroad in the art of living through a 10-day free course.

People cutting across religious boundaries are learning it to find solutions to their family problems and other issues.

Most of those attending it are young ones encouraging different professional and domestic challenges.

Businessman Late S N Goenka of Myanmar took immense pains in promoting it in India and abroad. It was successfully introduced by Kiran Bedi in Tihar jail where the prisoners continue to do it and get reformed.

Goenka who recovered from his throbbing migraine issue through Vipassana became its ambassador across the world renouncing his business empire.

Vipassana means to see things as they really are.Expenses are met by donations from people who, having completed a course and experienced the benefits of Vipassana. More information about it is available in
