SC rejects interim bail to Delhi CM

Kochi: In a setback to Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal, the Supreme Court on Wednesday rejected interim bail to him in a corruption case in the alleged excise policy scam case, media reports said.

A division bench rejected the bail plea by Kejriwal who had sought bail challenging his arrest.

The court will further hear the case on August 23.

Kejriwal had sought interim bail on health grounds. He had moved the Supreme Court after the Delhi High Court rejected his petition challenging the CBI arrest. He was granted bail by the Apex Court on July 12 in a similar case filed by the Enforcement Directorate (ED) which had arrested him on March 21, 2024.

The Delhi High Court had on August 5 rejected Kejriwal’s plea upholding his arrest by the CBI.

Former Delhi Deputy Chief Minister Manish Sisodia was granted bail in the same case by the Supreme Court after spending 17 months in jail.

Investigating agencies alleged that irregularities were committed in modifying the excise policy, and undue favours were extended to licence holders by the Delhi government in 2022. The Delhi Lieutenant Governor ordered a CBI probe into the alleged irregularities and corruption, the reports said.
