Ratan Tata passes away

Kochi: Chief of one of the major conglomerates, Tata Sons, Ratan Naval Tata, 86, passed away at a hospital in Mumbai on Wednesday, media reports said.
N Chandrasekaran, Chairman, Tata Sons, announced his death.
Born on 28 December 1937, in Mumbai into Parsi Zoroastrian family, Tata
was an industrialist and philanthropist who served the chairman of Tata Group and Tata Sons from 1990 to 2012.
He was interim chairman from October 2016 through February 2017.
He received Padma Vibhushan, Padma Bhushan.
Ratan Tata, son of Naval Tata, joined Tata in 1961, where he worked on the shop floor of Tata Steel.
He became chairman of Tata Sons in 1991. The Tata Group acquired Tetley, Jaguar Land Rover, and Corus, to become a global business group during his tenure.
Tata was a prolific investor and invested in over 30 start-ups.
“It is with a profound sense of loss that we bid farewell to Mr. Ratan Naval Tata, a truly uncommon leader whose immeasurable contributions have shaped not only the Tata Group but also the very fabric of our nation,”
N Chandrasekaran, Chairman, Tata Sons,
said in a press release on Wednesday night.
“For the Tata Group, Mr. Tata was more than a chairperson. To me, he was a mentor, guide and friend…,” he said
Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Opposition Leader Rahul Gandhi, leading industrialists Gautam Adani, Mukesh Ambani, Anand Mahindra among others have condoled his death.
