Kochi: The rightist BJP in southern state of Kerala is in the middle of controversies which are likely to impact its prospects in three byelections on November 13, media reports said.
Already reeling under factionalism, the party facing multiple allegations like its alleged involvement in 2021 Hawala case and charges of plotting to sabotage Thrissur Temple festival to consolidate Hindu votes in its favour in Parliament polls in which actor turned politician Suresh Gopi won from Thrissur to
become a junior central minister
The hawala case has surfaced at a time when the party was struggling to recover from the allegation of sabotaging Thrissur Pooram to increase its chances of winning parliament election from Thrissur.
These issues have shamed the ruling party in the centre at a time when it is fighting three byelections in the state.
The Left government has decided to reopen the hawala case that allegedly happened on 2 April 2021.
Tirur Satheesh, former office secretary of BJP’s Thrissur district office, claimed that cash-filled bags marked as election materials arrived at the office late on 2 April 2021, the reports said.
The case is pending before the Irinjalakuda First Class Judicial Magistrate Court.
The party had suffered a jolt when the Kerala High Court stayed a lower court order discharging BJP state chief K Surendran from an election bribery case related to the 2021 Manjeswaram Assembly elections.
