Kochi: Eighteen year old Gukesh Dommaraju of India became the youngest ever player to win the World Chess Championship, at Singapore on Thursday.
He defeated 32 year old Ding Liren of China to win the championship.
Gukesh was playing with black.
Born on 29 May 2006 in Chennai into a Telugu family, Gukesh learned to play chess at the age of seven. He studied at the Velammal Vidyalaya school, Mel Ayanambakkam, Chennai.
His father, Dr Rajinikanth, is an ENT and mother, Dr. Padma, is a microbiologist.
Viswanathan Anand, who was first to win it for India in 1988, is a five-time World Chess Champion.
