Kochi: South Indian actor Srikanth was arrested by Chennai police in connection with a drug case under
Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act, media reports said.
The actor was arrested after he was tested positive for drug use and evidence was found for drug transactions on his mobile phone, the reports said.
The actor had allegedly purchased cocaine at ₹12,000 per gram around 40 times. The police investigation revealed that the actor used UPI facility to transact ₹4.72 lakh for drug purchase, the reports said.
Blood tests conducted in a government hospital confirmed the accused using the narcotics as per the report.
It all started with the arrest of a former AIADMK IT wing member, Prasad, in connection with a brawl at a pub allegedly related to supplying and trafficking drugs.
Srikanth shot to fame in late nineties for his roles in Tamil and Telugu films like Nanban, Okariki Okaru, Oru Naal Oru Kanavu and Adavari Matalaku Ardhalu Verule.
