Kochi: A second year medical student from Odisha was gang raped in West Bengal’s Paschim Bardhaman district of Friday night, police said on Saturday, media reports said.
The incident occurred outside a private medical college campus in Durgapur when the student went out with a friend for dinner, the reports said.
The student from Jaleswar is under medical observation at a nearby hospital, the reports quoting police said.
The accused snatched her mobile phone and demanded money for returning it, he said.
Police have recorded the student’s statement, the officer said.
Meanwhile, the state health department has sought a report from the medical college.
