Kochi: Senior RSS pracharak and veteran cultural activist M A Krishnan, 97, passed away here on Tuesday. He was born in 1929 in Ivarkala village of Kollam. Widely associated with the development of several cultures, he also conceived and guided initiatives such as Amritabharathi, Bala Samskara Kendram, Bala Sahithi Prakashan, International Sri Krishna Kendram and Saurakshika, a movement focused on child rights protection. Krishnan completed his Master’s degree in Logic from Sanskrit College, Thiruvananthapuram. He took up teaching at Vazhoor High School in Kottayam. He was influenced by the teachings of Sree Vidyananda Tirthapada Swami of Vazhoor Theerthapadashram and Swami Agamananda and was deeply influenced by the teachings of Swami Vivekananda. Krishnan joined RSS shakha in 1947 and later became a full-time pracharak in 1954. He quit teaching to focus on the activities of Sangh in Kottayam, Ernakulam, Alappuzha and Kollam districts.
Krishnan became editor of Kesari in Kozhikode in 1964 and its editor-in-chief until 1990.
