WHO Monkeypox alert, more case in India

Kochi: Amidst WHO announcing a medical emergency following the spread of monkeypox in 70 countries, India has reported its fourth case in New Delhi.

A 31-year-old man with no travel history is admitted to Maulana Azad Medical College with no travel history.

Three other cases in India are reported in Kerala and had travel history to Gulf countries.

The World Health Organisation (WHO) described the situation as extraordinary and sounded its highest level of alarm for monkeypox.

WHO described it as a ‘Public Health Emergency of International Concern’.
The same declaration was used for Covid-19 in January 2020.
