Kochi: Noted Malayalam actor and comedian
Salim Kumar, 56, passed away due to cardiac arrest at a private hospital in Kochi on Saturday night, media reports said.
He is survived by wife and two children.
Salim Kumar had reportedly been suffering from multiple health ailments like liver cirrhosis, kidney-related ailments and chronic obstructive pulmonary disease. He had also undergone a liver transplant surgery.
Winner of national award for his performance in Adaminte Makan Abu in 2010, Salim Kumar acted in over 300 films.
Hailing from Chittatukara in North Paravur in Ernakulam, Salim Kumar did comedy shows before debuting in Malayalam film in 1997 through Ishtamanu Nooru Vattam. Thereafter there was no looking back for Salim Kumar who continued to make inroads in the Film industry.
His hit movies include C.I.D. Moosa, Thilakkam, Kilichundan Mampazham,
Pulival Kalyanam, Mayavi, Perumazhakkalam, Achanurangatha Veedu .
He directed Karutha Joothan of 2017 and fetched him Kerala State Film Award for Best Story. Salim Kumar directed documentaries and dramas.
He also won the Kerala State Film Award for Second Best Actor for Achanurangatha Veedu 2005 and a Kerala State Television Award for Best Actor 2013, Kerala State Film Awards in 2005, 2010, 2013 and 2016 and Filmfare Awards South in 2011.
