Kochi: The five-year-old Behsa Karimi from Afghanistan had little inhibition while stepping into the world of modern education when she joined Class I in the 113-year-old Government Lower Primary school Mudiyoorkara, Kottayam in Kerala, OnManorama reported.
Daughter of Mohammad Fahim Karimi and Ellaha Zahir from Herat City in Afghanistan, she reached school on the first day of the school calendar year with her parents and one-year-old brother, Bahar Karimi.
Behsa, who was very comfortable in a foreign land and never showed any kind of coyness was energetic and communicated in English.
She knows English, Dari, Urdu, and some Malayalam.
She took part in lighting of the traditional lamp at the ‘Pravesanolsavam’ marking the beginning of learning in the state.
Behsa did her pre primary in SH Mount Public School for LKG and UKG. The new school is just one km from their home.
Her father Fahim came to Kerala in 2021 to join a postgraduate degree in Business Management at Mahatma Gandhi University, Kottayam. Later, he brought his family. Fahim is now pursuing a PhD at the same university.
