Anvar to contest bypoll

Kochi: Trinamul Congress leader P V Anvar has announced his decision to contest the Nilambur byelection in Kerala, media reports said.
Traditionally affiliated to the Congress, Anvar was the college union chairman representing Congress.
However, he started association with the CPM-led Left front in the 2016 Assembly elections. Anvar was elected as a LDF candidate from Nilambur constituency, defeating Aryadan Shoukath of Congress.
In the 2021 Assembly elections, Anvar defeated V V Prakash of the Congress led UDF.
Anvar fell out with Kerala Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan.
Later, Anvar formed a new political party called Democratic Movement and merged with Trinamool Congress (AITC).
Anvar resigned as MLA leading to the byelection.
In May 2018, the Kozhikode district administration accused Anvar of illegal construction at his theme park in the district.
In 2019, the Revenue department ordered the demolition of the illegal check dam constructed by Anvar who challenged it in the Kerala High Court which ordered immediate demolition of the illegal check dam.
Anvar blamed the CPI for trying to destroy his business ventures.
In August 2024, Anva made serious allegations against some top IPS officers, including M R Ajith Kumar, ADGP) for Law and Order accusing them of being involved in gold smuggling, illegally accumulating wealth, and sabotaging the Thrissur Pooram festival.
