Kochi: Avocado is a highly healthy fruit and people should make it a part of their diet, Former Kerala Minister P J Joseph, MLA, said.
Speaking after visiting the Avocado Festival at Malabar Foods Thenamkunnu in Thodupuzha, Joseph said cultivating in the hilly areas of Idukki would fetch good returns for the farmers.
This is the first time a campaign is being taken up to promote Avocado cultivation, Dean Kuriakose, MP, said.
The government will give all assistance to those engaged in cultivation of Avocado, Mangosteen, Passion Fruit, Rambutan which fetch very high returns, he said. Avocado fruits, Avocado juice, and other delicacies made out of it will be available at the Fest, Fruit Valley Chairman Biju Parayanilam said.
An association of Avocado growers in Idukki will work to reinforce the Avocado Farmers’ Club to produce value-added products of Avocado, he said.
Dr Josekutty Ozhukayil, Thomas Peedikayil, Jose Muzhuthettu, Bina Mannur, Chintan Jose, were among the large number of club office bearers who gave leadership to Fest.
