It is either the wife or husband who depart first leaving behind their better halves to live the rest of life in the memory of their togetherness.
Rarest are cases of both husband and wife dying on a single day.
One such incident took place at Manalur near the temple town of Guruvayur where both the husband and wife died on a single day.
Pottekattu Surendran, 90, a retired staff of an aided school, died in the wee hours of Thursday due to old age ailments. All arrangements were done for his funeral at 2 pm. Relatives and friends gathered in large numbers in the ancestral house to accord the final send off.
As the deadline of final farewell was nearing close, the news broke out that his wife Kamala Devi, 85, breathed her last in a hospital in Thrissur within hours after the death of her husband. The news shocked
their relatives and friends who wondered at the will of the almighty.
The funeral was rescheduled and both the husband and wife were given a teary adieu at about 5 pm.
