Kochi: Kerala High Court has transferred the Kozhikode District Sessions Court judge who granted bail to writer Civic Chandran accused in a sexual abuse case.
The District Court had granted bail to the accused on Augusnt 12 making certain observations that led to widespread protests.
Civic Chandran went underground after the case was lodged against him. A few days later the 73-year-old playwright and poet filed an anticipatory bail in the court which granted bail to him.
Following this the prosecution had submitted a petition under section 482 and 439 (2) of the CrPc alleging that the observations of the district court were illegal.
The district court judge was transferred to Kollam labour court. A few other judges were also transferred.
There are two cases pending against him filed by a Dalit writer and by another writer.
