Cong wins

Kochi: Congress-led front won the by-election in Nilambur after Aryadan Shoukath defeated CPM’s M Swaraj by 11,077 votes today. 

Shoukath got 77,087 while his rival

M Swaraj of CPM got 66,159 votes.

P V Anwar, whose resignation as Left backed Independent candidate, led to the holding of the election got 19,946 votes.

Mohan George of BJP got 8,562 votes.

Anwar quit as Nilambur MLA following differences with Kerala Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan.

Meanwhile, Aam Aadmi Party was leading in two seats, BJP and Trinamool Congress in seat each in the bye-election in Gujarat,  Punjab and Bengal.
