CPM state conference begins

Kochi: The 24th CPM Kerala State Conference was opened by Politburo member Prakash Karat at Kollam on Thursday.
Karat cautioned against “new fascism” promoted by far-right governments including the BJP-led Union government.
He said it is rooted in prejudice and discrimination against minorities and immigrants.
Karat said the Left Democratic Front (LDF) was against the BJP’s corporate Hindutva policies.
Karat said that he united fight by Left and other democratic forces stalled BJP’s plans to amend the constitution.
He said the people should fight against BJP government’s aggressive privatisation and corporatisation agenda and the ‘One Nation, One Election’ plan.
He expressed concern over the rise of far-right forces worldwide like the election of the U.S. President Donald Trump and the growing influence of right-wing parties in Europe.
He flayed the BJP government’s stand on Palestinian issue.
A total of 530 delegates are attending the conference, including 486 representatives from various districts and 44 guests from outside Kerala.
CPM Central Committee member A.K. Balan presided over the event.
Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan, Politburo members Brinda Karat, Subhashini Ali, B V Raghavulu, Ashok Dhawale, M.A. Baby, A. Vijayaraghavan were among those present.
