Kochi: Five persons were killed and several injured in a blast in a cracker unit in Sivakasi in Tamil Nadu, media reports said.
There were two women among the deceased.
Four of those injured are in serious condition.
There were over 50 people in the crackers factory during the blast.
Last year 10 persons were killed in a similar incident.
Sivakasi is a major cracker in the country. Despite the state government taking strong steps against illegal units, police and government authorities turn a blind eye towards grey markets leading to tragedies. Some units even use banned chemicals.
