Kochi: Fourtyone-year-old M S Dhoni shut the mouths of his critics by proving his superiority as he fetched Chennai Super Kingsthe the IPL 2023 at Ahmedabad.
Chennai Super Kings won their fifth IPL title
beating reigning champions Gujarat Titans in a nail biting finish in a rain -truncated match.
With this Dhoni sealed his name as the most successful captain in the history of the Indian Premier League. CSK also became the only team to enter the finals for the tenth time.
Bringing down curtains on the two-month long cricket festival, CSK stole a chilling victory as Ravindra Jadeja scored the needed runs by hitting the ball to the ropes in the last ball.
The match was reduced to 15 overs under the DLS system due to two hours interruption by rains.
Dhoni won the toss elected to field.
Reigning champions Gujarat Titans (GT) played an outstanding innings to post a total of 214 for four.
No sooner than Chennai started its innings, rain interrupted. It resumed with a new winning target of 171 runs in 15 overs under DLS method.
The final two overs were edge-of-the-seat as the target appeared to be not reachable when
Ravindra Jadeja presented a magnificent finish for his team.
Devon Conway (CSK) was player of the match. Other players selected for their outstanding performance were Dhoni for
Catch of the Match award.
