Docs on strike, HC meets urgently

Kochi: Shocked by the killing of a young doctor, the Kerala High Court has called a special sitting, while the doctors across the state have gone on a strike maintaining emergency services.
Despite being closed for vacation, the High Court is meeting to peruse the incident at
Kottarakkara Taluk Hospital where the doctor was killed in front of the policeman and other security guards.
The doctors’ strike called by the IMA will end tomorrow at 8 am. The IMA is holding a meeting to decide the future course of action.
The attack on the house surgeon Dr Vandana Das, by the 42-year-old drug addict teacher Sandeep, is not an isolated case as the doctors are the prime targets of patients and their bystanders in hospitals across the state.
Though there are stringent Act to punish the culprits, rarely cases are registered as most of the time the accused are political activists or influential people.
At a time when underdeveloped states like Uttar Pradesh and Bihar are doing exceptionally well in all sectors, the highly literate state is cruising down in all fields including drug smuggling and Law and Order.
Sandeep, who was under suspension, was taken to the hospital in a careless manner by the police.
The accused used scissors to stab the doctor even as the cop failed to prevent it. The accused was brought to the hospital to treat a wound suffered by Sandeep.
The accused hailing from Kudavoor in Thiruvananthapuram was a teacher in the Upper Primary school in Nedumpana in Kollam and was under suspension.
He was recently released from a deaddiction centre.
