ED charge sheets K Babu

Kochi: The Directorate of Enforcement (ED) has filed a chargesheet against former Kerala Minister K Babu of Congress in connection with a money laundering case, media reports said.
The charge sheet was submitted before the a Special court in Kochi on Monday
based on the case registered by the Vigilance and Anti-Corruption Bureau (VACB) in which the vigilance court, Muvattupuzha, acquitted him due to lack of evidence in 2021.
The ED accused Babu of amassing assets worth Rs 25.82 lakh disproportionate to his known sources of income between July 1, 2007, and May 5, 2016 as an Excise Minister in the Congress-led front” rule.
The ED accused Babu of amassing wealth in the form of movable and immovable properties. The ED had attached Babu’s properties as part of the money laundering probe in 2024.
The Vigilance court at Muvattupuzha acquitted Babu in the case pertaining to allegedly involving in corruption of Rs 100 crore by sanctioning new bar licence and closure of bars during Babu’s tenure as Excise Minister.
