Efforts to end US crisis

Kochi: The US Senate has cleared a deal aimed at ending the US government shutdown, BBC reported.
A minority of Democrats joined with Republicans to vote in favour of an agreement to clear the deal which is the first step towards passing a compromise to fund the government encountering financial crunch since October 1.
It will need to clear several more hurdles before federal employees and services return.
The current shutdown is the longest US’ history.
Many government services have been suspended and around 1.4 million federal employees are on unpaid leave or working without pay.
The shutdown has impacted services, including US air travel and food benefits for 41 million low-income Americans.
Republicans have a 53-47 majority in the Senate and need a minimum of 60 votes to clear it.
