Kochi: A son of a priest burgled his own house at Kuropada in Kottayam in Kerala.
The priest Ilappanaal, Fr Jacob Nainan and his wife had gone to the church when the incident took place the other day, media reports said.
On their return they found their house ransacked and chili powder strewn all around and Rs 80,000 in cash and 48 sovereigns of gold ornaments missing, the reports said.
The priest summoned the police who suggested that the burglary was done by a person who knew the family very well.
The cops also recovered 21 sovereigns of gold near the house. This gave them enough indication that the burglary was not done by burglars.
Police started questioning the family members when the cops grew suspicious over his eldest son Shyno engaged in business.
He was subjected to sustained questioning during which time he broke down and admitted to committing the crime to meet his financial requirements.
The cash was recovered from the business establishment of Shyno attached to the house. The 27 sovereigns of gold were found buried, reports said.
Shyno has been arrested.
