Kochi: Film Employees Federation of Kerala (FEFKA) has suspended noted director Ranjit its different outfits after he was booked in an alleged sexual abuse case, Asianet News reported.
FEFKA Director’s Union and FEFKA Writers unions suspended him.
FEFKA Director’s Union general secretary Ranji Panicker, General Secretary G S Vijayan said.
The film maker Ranjit was arrested last night as he was attempting to go underground.
Ranjit came to know hours before about the young actress lodging complaint against him.
Ranjit, who was arrested in Thodupuzha in Idukki last night, was brought to Kochi on Tuesday morning and produced before the Magistrate who remanded him to judicial custody for 14 days.
The actor encountered the alleged abuse in a caravan during the shooting of Ranjit’s film at Fort Kochi in January. The young actor lodged complaint with Kochi city Commissioner last week after which a Special Investigation Team led by DCP Ashwathi Jiji formed to probe the case. The SIT arrested Ranjit after conducting preliminary investigation.
In 2024, a Bengali actor had lodged a complaint against Ranjit accusing him of allegedly groping in his flat where he invited her for discussing her role in his film Paleri Manikkam.
However, the complaint was quashed by the Kerala High Court citing delay in lodging the case that took place in 2009.
The complaint was filed in August 2024, shortly after the release of the Justice K Hema Committee Report which studied the working condition of female actors in the film industry.
