Kochi: The Centre has rejected Opposition charges of tapping their phones including that of Congress leader Rahul Gandhi.
Stating that an enquiry has already been ordered into it, Union IT Minister Ashwini Viashnaw sought support of all leaders in the probe.
Describing those who levelled the allegations as “compulsive critics”,
Vaishnaw said that they were trying to distract the progress of the country.
Stating that “the Apple had issued alerts in 150 countries,” Vaishnaw reminded that Apple’s encryption system cannot be hacked.
Earlier, Rahul Gandhi told a press conference that the Opposition leaders were not scared about it.
Taking a dig at the BJP government, he said that they can “tap our phones as much as they want”.
In a sarcastic gesture, Rahul offered his phone to the government if they wanted it. Some Opposition leaders claimed that they too had received an alert cautioning them of “state-sponsored attackers trying to remotely compromise” their iPhones.
Priyanka Chaturvedi, MP, Shiv Sena (UBT), Mahua Moitra, (Trinamool Congress), Raghav Chadha, (Aam Aadmi Party) Shashi Tharoor and Pawan Khera of Congress posted screenshots of the messages on their X handles.
