HC asks cops to book Ponmudy

Kochi: The Madras High Court on Thursday directed the Tamil Nadu police to book Forest Minister K Ponmudy for his controversial remarks against women and the faithful, media reports said.
The court wondered why no action was taken against the minister for his comments made last week.
Ponmudy was sacked as deputy general secretary of the DMK by Chief Minister M K Stalin even as he continued to be the a Minister. The court asked the Advocate General whether a FIR was registered against the minister.
The court made the observations during the hearing on a suo motu revision case against Ponmudy relating to a disproportionate assets (DA) case.
The Advocate General said the police have received five complaints and that they will investigate and register an FIR.
The court warned to initiate suo motu contempt if the police failed to register an FIR. The case was posted to April 23.
