Kochi: The High Court of Kerala on Monday directed reconstruction of Chander Kunj Army Towers at Silver Sand Island, Vyttila, for poor quality construction, media report said.
The towers have been involved in legal battles over poor quality of construction.
The court ordered the Army Welfare Housing Organisation (AWHO) to demolish two of the three residential towers for the safety of the inmates of the flats.
The court directed the district collector to constitute a committee for the implementation of the order.
The committee should have a structural engineer, two owners from residents associations, an engineer from the municipality concerned and an officer from the town planning department.
The court said the order was issued after considering various factors including expert reports.
The court said the AWHO should pay rental expenses during the period of demolition and reconstruction, the reports said.
