Kochi: A 44 year old cop, Shyam Prasad, was kicked to death by a history-sheeter Jibin George, 27, at a roadside eatery at Thellakom near Ettumanoor in Kottayam, Kerala, on Sunday night, media reports said.
Shyam, a civil police officer attached to the Kottayam West police station was killed while trying to prevent the accused from attacking a few people at an eatery at Thellakom near Ettumanoor in Kottayam.
Jibin, a native of Perumbayikkad in Kottayam, was arrrested.
The officer, who was seriously injured in the attack, was rushed to a nearby hospital where he succumbed in the wee hours of Monday.
Shyam was returning home after his duty at a church festival at Kudamaloor when he and other cops stopped at a food joint where the crime took place.
Jibin is accused in seven other cases at Gandhinagar police station. He was charged under various sections of Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS), including Section 103 (murder).
