Kochi: The Executive Committee of Association of Malayalam Movie Actors (AMMA) will meet on Sunday to deliberate on disciplinary action against rape accused filmmaker, actor Vijay Babu.
The Internal Complaints Committee (ICC) of AMMA had approached its executive committee seeking action against Vijay, media reports quoting its president Shwetha Menon said.
But she did not disclose the content of the recommendation.
This is the first incident happening after AMMA amended its rules.
There are indications that ICC is seeking his expulsion from AMMA.
The ICC had convened a meeting on April 27 soon after the survivor had lodged the complaint. The ICC had met thrice after it following which the suggestion was given.
Meanwhile, there are reports of differences in AMMA on dealing with the case against Babu.
One section is of the opinion that a show cause notice may be issued to him and then take action after hearing him, while some are in favour of a direct action.
AMMA biased support for actor Dileep in the 2017 actor assault case had led to many female actors getting out of it and forming Women in Cinema Collective (WCC).
Only after this he was asked to quit that too one year in 2018 after the happening of assault case 2017 due to a huge campaign against AMMA.
The ICC was set up in the direction of the
Kerala High Court to establish ICC to conform to the Sexual Harrasment of Women at Workplace Act 2013.
On the other hand, Vijay Babu has filed a anticipatory bail plea in Kerala High Court.
