Kochi: Upbeat over qualifying into the semifinals, India defeated Zimbabwe comfortably by 71 runs in the T20 men’s World Cup at Melbourne today.
Winning the toss, India decided to bat first and laid a strong foundation of mighty 186 runs. Thanks to the valuable contribution of 51 off 35 deliveries by K L Rahul and Surya Kumar Yadav’s 61 off 25 deliveries.
S Williams of Zimbabwe took two wickets while Raza, Muzarbani and Ngarava one each.
In reply, Zimbabwe performed poorly from the start and collapsed at 115 in 17.2 overs.
Raza hit 34 from 24 balls, Burl 35 off 22 deliveries.
Ashwin took three wickets in 22, Mohammad Shami and Hardik Pandya two and B Kumar, A Singh and Axar Patel one each.
India, which tops group 2, had established its berth in semifinals before beating Zimbabwe.
India will play against England on November 10 at Adelaide.Pakistan are the other semi-finalists from Group 2 and it will take on New Zealand at Sydney on November 9.
