Kochi: The BJP and Congress have been invited by Iran for the funeral of late Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei on July 4, media reports said.
The BJP Chief Nitin Nabin, Congress President Mallikarjun Kharge are among important leaders invited.
Names of Congress leaders including Salman Khurshid and Pawan Khera also figure in the list of invitees.
Union Minister of State for External Affairs Pabitra Margherita and the Bihar governor Lt Gen (retired) Syed Ata Hasnain belonging to the Shia community are likely to visit Iran as Government representatives.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi was invited for the funeral programme by Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian.
