Thomas defies party diktat

Kochi: Congress gets another blow as
senior Congress leader and former Union Minister K V Thomas is all set to bid adieu to
the party.

The Congress had refused permission to the 75-year-old former professor from attending a seminar organised by the CPM coinciding with the party Congress at Kannur.

The 75-year-old former professor, Thomas, had sought a Rajya Sabha seat from the party which showed no interest to consider his demand.

Thomas had been a minister in Kerala and at the center in the past.
Thomas had problems with Congress when it refused a give him a ticket during the last parliamentary election in 2019.

Following this, there were rumours that Thomas may join BJP.
Talking to reporters, he said he was invited to the seminar when he met Sitaram Yechury at New Delhi in March.

Justifying his decision, Thomas reminded that Rahul Gandhi had attended the CPM party Congress in Chennai.
He said he won elections seven times and it showed how popular he was among the voters.

He said he had close contacts with the Prime Minister Modi and Congress president Sonia Gandhi.
