Kochi: Legendary Malayalam film personality Sreenivasan, 69, writer and filmmaker, passed away at Kochi on Saturday.
He is survived by wife Vimala and two sons Vineeth Sreenivasan, a singer, actor, director and producer, and Dhyan Sreenivasan, an actor, director and producer.
Born on April 6, 1956, in Patyam near Thalassery in Kannur, Sreenivasan started on a low note and became indispensable in the Malayalam film industry.
He acted in over 225 films and wrote some of Malayalam cinema’s most eternal screenplays in a career spanning nearly five decades.
Sreenivasan screenplay started in Odaruthammava Aalariyam in 1984.

As a filmmaker, he scripted and directed Vadakkunokkiyanthram and Chinthavishtayaya Shyamala.
Sreenivasan received numerous honours over his career, including a National Film Award, two Filmfare Awards South and six Kerala State Film Awards. He won the Kerala State Film Award for Best Screenplay for Sandesam and Mazhayethum Munpe.
He associated directors Priyadarshan, Sathyan Anthikad and Kamal, to play a key role in shaping the golden era of Malayalam comedy and social drama.
He started his career as an actor in P A Backer’s Manimuzhakkam in 1976.
His formal training at the Film and Television Institute of Tamil Nadu in Chennai where Tamil legendary actor Rajinikanth.
