No bail pleas for gold case accused

Kochi: Kerala High Court on Friday dismissed the bail pleas of Travancore Devaswom Board’s (TDB) former President N Vasu and former administrative officer Murari Babu, and Thiruvabharanam Commissioner, K S Baiju in the Sabarimala gold robbery cases.
The High Court sharply criticised the SIT for its “lax and selective” approach and wanted to know why Travancore Devaswom Board members K P Shankardas and N Vijayakumar, who were part of the board at the time of the crime had not been arraigned as accused.
Describing the case as a rarest of rare crime, the court observed where “the custodians themselves had became the destroyers”.
The court said such a large-scale theft of temple gold could not have occurred without the involvement of senior officials.
Expressing concern over lack of progress in the probe after December 5, the court warned it will not tolerate
shielding anyone.
