LIifemission: CBiI files chargesheet

Kochi:The CBI has indicted six including Swapna Suresh and Santhosh Eappen in the chargesheet filed in the Life Mission corruption case in Thrissur in Kerala. Santhosh Eappen, Managing Director, Unitac Builders, is the first accused, followed by Swapna Suresh, Sandeep Nair, and Sarith.A total of about ₹4 crore to ₹4.5 crore was allegedly embezzled as commission/bribes out of ₹21 crore given by the UAE Red Crescent for 2018 flood victims.Total financial irregularities value around ₹11 crore, media reports said. Former Kerala Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan’s Principal Secretary M Sivasankar and former CEO U V Jose were accused of involvement in financial irregularities. M Sivasankar was first to be arrested by the Enforcement Directorate in the case.The case pertains to the state government’s LIFE Mission project aimed at building houses for 140 families in Wadakkanchery in Thrissur district under the LIFE Mission scheme at Rs 14.50 crore out of Rs 18.50 crore granted by the Red Crescent via the UAE consulate. Santhosh Eapan accused those including Swapna Suresh of receiving a bribe of Rs 4.48 crore Swapna Suresh and Sarith accused Sivasankar for his alleged involvement.
