Kochi: BJP alliance is heading for an imminent victory in the key state of Maharashtra where it was leading in 229 out of 288 seats.
The performance of the saffron party led bloc Mahayuti comprising Eknath Shinde led Shiv Sena and NCP faction headed by Ajit Pawar was convincing. No alliance has ever crossed the magic 200-seat mark.
The Maha Vikas Aghadi comprising Congress, Shiv Sena led by Uddhav Thackeray and NCP headed by Sharad Pawar was ahead in 54 seats.
The JMM-led I.N.D.I.A bloc comprising Congress was was heading to form the government by leading in over 50 out of 81 seats in the assembly polls in Jharkhand. The BJP-led NDA, was leading in 26 seats.
Out of the 46 assembly seats, where byelections were held, the BJP-led NDA won 26, Congress seven, Trinamool Congress six, Aam Aadmi Party three and Samajwadi Party two seats. The LDF in Kerala and BAP in Rajasthan got one each.
Sikkim Krantikari Morcha (SKM) won two seats in Sikkim unopposed.
BJP won one Lok Sabha seat in Nanded in Maharashtra while Congress comfortably won from Wayanad in Kerala which is its stronghold.
