Kochi: Former Chief Whip P C George of BJP was remanded by a court
in Kerala on Monday in an alleged “anti Muslim” remarks during a TV channel debate a few days back.
Rejecting his bail plea, the Magistrate court in Erattupetta in Kottayam remanded him until March 10.
The court sent George to four hours police custody until 6 PM even as police had prayed for two days custody.
After surrendering in court in the morning, the Magistrate court started hearing the case from 12.30 pm.
The court adjourned the case for further consideration at 2 pm.
While George’s lawyer argued that he did not incite religious hatred or hurt religious sentiments, the prosecution presented details of George’s previous cases to prove that he had violated bail conditions and should be questioned in custody.
The prosecution contended that his remarks were made in a manner that hurt religious sentiments.
