Kochi: Pakistan government has directed Afghan Citizen Card (ACC) holders to leave the country voluntarily as part of a plan to repatriate all illegal foreigners by March 31, media reports said.
A government document, purportedly leaked to the media, indicated that the ACC holders staying in Islamabad and Rawalpindi will be sent back to Afghanistan as part of a multiphase relocation plan for Afghan migrants, the reports said.
It is likely to impact over 800,000 refugees holding ACC. The Illegal Foreigners Repatriation Programme (IFRP) was implemented on November 1, 2023 to repatriate all illegal foreigners.
The decision comes amidst deteriorating ties between Islamabad and Kabul over the issue of terrorism.
