ED: PFI targetted PM

Kochi: The Enforcement Directorate (ED) has claimed that the PFI had plotted against Prime Minister Narendra Modi in Patna in July and planned to target some key people and places in Uttar Pradesh, media reports said.

The outfit had organised a training camp to launch an attack during Prime Minister’s visit to Patna, the ED claimed in the remand report of
Popular Front of India (PFI) member Shafeeque Payeth who was arrested from Kerala on Thursday.

The PFI was raising terror groups and acquiring arms to launch the attacks in UP, it said.
The ED has unearthed details of Rs 120 crore collected by the PFI to create riots and terror activities across the country, the reports said.

The terrorists belonging to Indian Mujahideen (IM) had triggered a blast in Patna in 2013 when Modi was in Patna to address a rally when he was Gujarat Chief Minister.

The IM, which had in its rolls members of the banned Students’ Islamic Movement in India (SIMI), triggered serial blasts in the rally
killing six.
