Mr clean bids goodbye to Delhi

Kochi: The 81-year-old A K Antony ended his innings in Parliament to return home to keep himself away from active parliamentary politics.
It was an emotional farewell at his residence when the former Defense Minister and his wife Elizabeth were given a painful send off by the staff at his quarters the other day.
Congress leader Benny Behnan, MP,  accompanied them on their return home after his tenure ended on April 7.
Though Antony has left Delhi, he will continue to hold important positions like Congress Working Committee member.
He landed in Delhi first in 1973 when he was only 33 years old to meet the then Prime Minister Indira Gandhi, he told an English daily online.
He took a taxi and went to Number 1, Safdarjung road, and Indira Gandhi came near the car to receive Antony, who was the KPCC president, he told an English online daily.
His adamant nature to not compromise on his principles saw him joining hands with the then Karnataka Chief Minister Devaraj Urs to form Congress (A) in Kerala in 1978 after differences with the parent party.
He returned to Congress in 1982.
He was thrice Kerala Chief Minister and  Defense Minister under Manmohan Singh.
He put his weight behind the Gandhi family playing a key role in controlling the party everytime when the party was in crises.

Antony feels that Gandhi tag is essential for the survival of Congress.
