Kochi: A former SHO of Karipur Police Station was found guilty of keeping in his personal custody over eight sovereign gold in the Station, media reports said. The gold articles included three gold chains, two earrings, a ring, and a bracelet which were lost by their owners in Karipur airport between 2018 and October 2024. The matter surfaced when the police personnel were taking an audit of inventories in the Station in February 2026 after the transfer of the former SHO. A probe by State Special Branch intelligence exposed the massive security lapse. The Kondotty Assistant Superintendent of Police (ASP) submitted a report to Malappuram District police Chief. A high-level departmental inquiry led by the Deputy Superintendent of Police (DySP) is currently underway.
