Kochi: In a tragic incident, nine women tea workers were killed and three others injured when their jeep fell into a deep gorge at hilly Mananthavady in Wayanad in Kerala, media reports said.
Most of them died on the spot. The driver was among those injured, the reports said.
Barring the driver, all were women.
They were returning home after the day’s work at a tea estate in Kambamala.
The jeep owned by a tea company, where they were employed, hit a culvert on the hairpin at Kannamala and fell into the gorge.
The incident took place before 4 pm near Kannothumala at Thavinjal panchayat. Bodies of the deceased were kept in the mortuary of Government Medical College Hospital in Mananthavady.
