Rameshwaram: Despite failing to address some issues of tourists, Tamil Nadu has done well in providing budget accommodation for tourists, at least in Rameshwaram.
As the flow of tourists to Rameshwaram is on a constant increase, the demand for accomodation has surged simultaneously helping private lodges to make hay while the sun shines.
Tamil Nadu Government has pitched in at the right time by setting up a budget accommodation facility at Rameshwaram near the state transport corporation bus stand.
The Yatri Nivas has non air conditioned double rooms for just Rs 500 and air conditioned rooms for Rs 750. There are many dormitories for large families at a very cheap rate.
However, people visiting Rameshwaram cannot make out that it is a lodging place. The building gives the appearance of a government office as the board is not displayed prominently.
The authorities are planning to start a restaurant in the massive premises at the earliest to provide safe and healthy south Indian delicacies to the pilgrims.
The staff maintaining it are also well behaved and humble.
There is another lodge and a restaurant through run by Tamil Nadu Tourism Development Corporation (TTDC) on the coast at Agnitheertham where the rituals are held. This facility, which is there for the last several years, has limited rooms.
