Kochi: The spectacular display of sample Vedikettu (fireworks) was held ay 7.30 pm by Thiruvambady and Paramekkavu temples on the eve of Thrissur Pooram on Sunday.
Thiruvambadi temple lit the first round of sample fireworks, followed by Paramekkavu which are the stakeholders of the festival organised to get the blessings of Lord Shiva, the presiding deity of Vadakkunnathan temple.
The traditional display of decorative parasols (chamayam) by the Thiruvambady and Paramekkavu temple was held.
The opening of the southern gopuram (gateway) of the Vadakkumnathan Shiva Temple will be done on Monday signalling the beginning of the festival which is a competition between Thiruvambadi and Paramekkavu temples supported by other smaller temples.The main celebrations will be held on Tuesday.
Traffic restrictions will be in place across the city from 3.30 pm on Sunday. Private vehicles will only be allowed up to the city’s outer ring. Restrictions.
The grand finale of Thrissur Pooram will be held on May 6 and the main fireworks’ display will be in the early hours of Wednesday.
