Kochi: Three policemen including the Station House Officer (SHO) were suspended in connection with the death of one Sanjeevan, 42, at Vadakara police station on Friday.
SHO Nijeesh, ASI Arun and CPO Girish were those suspended by Kannur Range DIG Rahul R Nair after they were prima facie found to have violated the norms.
Sanjeevan and others were detained after they allegedly engaged in an altercation with another party following a road accident on Thursday night, media reports said.
Police alleged that Sanjeevan was intoxicated and took him to the police station.
After detaining him for some time in the police station, he was released, media reports said.
His friends alleged that Sanjeevan complained of chest pain and wanted to go to hospital but his request was ignored by police.
Following this he collapsed. Immediately he was taken to the hospital where he was declared brought dead. Following this there was a big protest in the region.
