Kochi: Conservative Saudi Arabia has lifted a 73-year-old alcohol ban ahead of Expo 2030 and the FIFA World Cup 2034, media reports said.
After imposing ban since 1952,
the kingdom will allow controlled sale and consumption of alcohol in 2026.
Alcohol sales will be limited to 600 places like luxury hotels, resorts and areas developed for tourists across Saudi Arabia like Neom, Sindalah Island and the Red Sea Project.
Beer, wine and cider will be available while stronger alcoholic drinks like spirits are not allowed.
Alcohol cannot be used in homes, shops or public places and alcohol production will remain banned.
Only licensed venues and trained staff will be allowed to serve alcohol.
Saudi Arabia’s Vision 2030 Plan aims to expand tourism, entertainment and hospitality.
