Shoukath is UDF nominee

Kochi: Film maker Aryadan Shoukath, 59, of Congress has been named UDF nominee for the Nilambur by-election.
The candidate of Shoukath, who is KPCC General Secretary, was cleared by Congress high command.
The UDF took the decision ignoring the offer of former Left front backed Independent and Trinamool Congress leader P V Anvar to extend his support if DCC President V S Joy was fielded as UDF candidate.
Shoukath is the son of late Congress leader Aryadan Mohammded who was a minister in UDF government led by Ommen Chandy.
Joy has assured that he will provide full support to the party candidate. Joy is supported by Opposition Leader V D Satheesan.
Aryadan Shoukath is a film producer, screenwriter who has made films to address social issues.
Shoukath entered the film industry as a producer and screenwriter with the film Paadam Onnu: Oru Vilapam in 2003. The film highlights the treatment of girls’ education within the Muslim community. This film was commercially successful and fetched him National Film Award for Best Film on Family Welfare.
Vilapangalkkappuram, Daivanamathil, Varthamanam are his other films. Shoukath contested the 2016 Kerala Assembly elections from Nilambur but lost to P V Anvar who has served as chairman of Nilambur municipality.
