Tail enders’ fireworks see South Africa through against Sri Lanka

As the final overs wound up, Sri Lankan supporters started celebrating a sure victory until Rabada entered the field. His entry changed the direction of the game

Kochi: South Africa stole a surprise win beating Sri Lanka by four wickets in the ICC 20-20 at Sharjah on Saturday.

In a dramatic change in the situation, South African tailenders Rabada and Miller hit a few sixers to change the fate of the game. Rabada hit the ball to the boundary to seal the victory even as one ball was left. Pathum Nissanka, 72, of Sri Lanka played good shots but other players had little contribution in making a strong foundation for the first batting side.

For South Africa Dwaine Petrorius took 3 for 17, Tabraiz Shamsi 3 for 17 and Anrich Nortje 2 for 27. Chasing a winning total of 143, South Africa started shakingly and appeared to have surrendered to Sri Lanka. As the final overs wound up, Sri Lankan supporters started celebrating a sure victory until Rabada entered the field. His entry changed the direction of the game. The Proteas made 146 in 19.5 overs to seal victory in its favour.

Temba Bavuma made 46 and David Miller 23 for South Africa. For Sri Lanka Hasaranga took 3 wickets for 29 and Chameera 2 for 27.
